Poetics of Alleys

Based on the environment I grew up in, I view an off-street alley as a welcoming venue. In my childhood memories, an alley is a place where a lot happens — it was both a playground where I played with friends and a space where I gathered with neighbors. The boundaries of my private space were frequently extended into the public space of the alley. In my current surroundings, I became more attentive to off-street alleys and portrayed them in my pieces to evoke my memories and emotions from my past. Therefore, each painting in the series is an emotional connection to the alleys of my childhood.
